Curious kids with an interest in science and math and budding young authors will have the opportunity to explore their interests
in summer learning camps offered at Dalton State College.
First
up is Dalton State’s World of Science camp offered for students in
second through fifth grades. The popular camp will
be led by Dalton State science faculty members and will meet in the
gleaming new Peeples Hall, home to Dalton State’s biology and chemistry
departments. World of Science camp will take place Monday through
Friday, June 16-20, from 12 to 3:30 pm each day. Cost
of the World of Science Camp is $90 for the week.
Roadrunner
Reading and Writing Camp will be led by Dr. Jacquelyn Mesco assisted by
students of Dalton State’s teacher education
program. Each day, campers will read different types of books and then
write about what they’ve read. At the end of the week, every camper will
leave with a completed book of their own original works.
The
camp takes place the week of June 23-27. Second and third grade
students meet mornings from 9 am to 12 noon; fourth and
fifth graders will meet afternoons from 1 to 4 pm. The camp will take
place in the School of Education’s model classroom in The James E. Brown
Center; cost is $90.
The
perennially popular Creek Critters camp, which introduces children to
the wonders of stream ecosystems, will be offered
again for children ages five and six. Creek Critters will be taught by
Dalton State biology faculty members Dr. John and Gretchen Lugthart and
will meet Monday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 11, from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Cost is $40.
Space is limited for all camps and early registration is encouraged. To register for Dalton State’s World of Science Camp,
Roadrunner Reading and Writing Camp, or Creek Critters Camp, contact Sarah Key at 706-272-4556 or skey@daltonstate.edu.
