On Saturday, April 11, 2015, the Bandy Heritage Center in conjunction
with the Creative Arts Guild will host "Gateway to the South: A
Centennial Commemoration of the Dixie Highway." A select panel of six
speakers will discuss a diverse array of topics ranging from the history
of the Dixie Highway and its impact on the South to present day tourism
initiatives.
The symposium will be held at the Creative Arts Guild located at 520 Waugh Street in Dalton, Georgia. The symposium will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm with a mid-session break for lunch.
Prior to the symposium, the Bandy Center will open an exhibition at the Creative Arts Guild on Friday April 10, 2015, featuring a collection of historic photographs and postcards exploring the Dixie Highway and the various communities, businesses, and activities that existed along the route.
The exhibition and symposium are FREE and open to all Dalton State College students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
