On June 20, 2013, the Bandy Heritage Center, in partnership with the
Daughters of the American Revolution, Robert Loughridge Chapter, will
host a reception in Room 105 of the James E. Brown Center to unveil an
exceptional diary written by William Kennedy Pilsbury. Mr. Pilsbury
fought at the Battle of Chickamauga as a member of the 5th Georgia
Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
Pilsbury's diary is a hand written, eyewitness account of the
Chickamauga battle. The diary, complied in the years shortly before
Pilsbury's death in 1898, also traced his genealogy, which included a
great-grandfather who fought in the American Revolution, and included
his poetry and accumulated articles from his career as a teacher and
newspaper reporter and editor.
In order to preserve the diary for future public interest and research,
Bandy Center staffers Amanda Kelley and Justin Hayes (pictured) first
carefully seperated the pages of the diary to preserve their integrity.
The pages were then scanned and digitized for inclusion in the Center's
electronic archives.
The Bandy Center is grateful for the generosity of the DAR's Robert
Loughridge Chapter in allowing it to add this unique document to its
permanent archives.
