Spring Play


On Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5, the School of Liberal Arts will sponsor the 
spring student theatrical performance, “Night Must Fall,” a psychological thriller 
by Welsh playwright George Emlyn Williams.
 
Time: 7 pm (also Saturday matinee, 2 pm). 
Location: City Park School auditorium, 405 School Street, Dalton, GA
Cost: Free with Dalton State ID; $5 to public

Tour of Civil War Battlefields


The Bandy Heritage Center is hosting a motorcoach tour of Civil War battlefields involved in General Joseph Johnston’s ill-fated Atlanta Campaign. 
 
The daylong tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, beginning at Poplar Springs Church in Crow Valley and tracing engagements around Dalton, through Resaca, to the battles of Pickett’s Mill, New Hope Church, and Kennesaw Mountain. 
 
Historian and author Richard McMurry will conduct the tour of the campaign that sealed the fate of the Confederacy. The tour runs 8 am to 6:30 pm; cost is $50. For more information or to register, contact Brian Hilliard at bhilliar@daltonstate.edu.

Diversity of Cherokee Life and Culture

The Bandy Heritage Center of Northwest Georgia presents two seminars on the "Diversity of Cherokee Life and Culture" by Cherokee educator and lecturer, Diamond Go-Sti.

The seminars will be held on Thursday, March 13 in the James Brown Center, Room 105.

10:30am-noon - "Cherokee Myth Cycles and Oral Tradition"

2:00-3:30 pm - "Symbolism of Artifacts in Relation to Cherokee Life and Belief"

Both presentations are free and open to the public.

How Television is Changing Your Life

Dr. Kris Barton, Associate Professor of Communication and recipient of the Dalton State Foundation’s 2013 Award for Faculty Excellence in Scholarship, will deliver a Dalton State Lunch & Learn program titled “Understanding the Impact of Media: How Television is Changing Your Life” on March 18 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. at Dalton State College in The James E. Brown Center, room 105.

“Media are all around us,” says Dr. Barton. “Recent data suggest that the average American consumes 4.5 hours of television per day, but most never question the impact it has on them mentally, physically, and psychologically.” Dr. Barton will discuss how media – specifically, television – impacts us and has shaped the way we view news, politics, education, and religion.

Reservations and advance payment are required by March 14. Cost is $10 and includes lunch. Those with questions are invited to contact the Dalton State Foundation by calling 706.272.4473.

Dalton State Lunch & Learn programs are open to the public, ages 12 and older. Refunds are offered only on the occasion of an event cancellation by the Dalton State Foundation.

Who Am I? Introduction to Genealogy, Part III

 
On Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Room 205 of the James E. Brown Center, the Bandy Heritage Center will host "Who Am I?:Introduction to Genealogy, Part III." This seminar will be presented  by Dr. Dorothy Weathersby, Regent of the Robert Loughridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dr. Weathersby will discuss how to access and analyze United States Census records from 1790 to 1940 in your search to answer the question, "Who Am I?"
This seminar is FREE and open to all Dalton State College faculty, students, staff, and the general public.
