Just two weeks before the Presidential election, The Dalton State Foundation sponsors a pair of professors going head to head on national politics in a Lunch & Learn program on Wednesday, October 24, at 12 noon in the College’s James E. Brown Center.

Dr. Ken Ellinger, Associate Professor of Political Science, and Dr. Tom Veve, Associate Professor of History, will discuss presidential politics and the race for the White House in what promises to be a spirited debate.

Open Access Week -   

A global event now entering its sixth year, Open Access Week is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.

What is Open Access? 
Free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need (free of most copyright and licensing restrictions).  It has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted. It has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and for society as a whole.  To learn more about Open Access, go to:

 How Does Open Access Impact Me?  
Through Open Access, we are able to create The Roadrunner Scholar: Digital Repository of faculty and student research and campus publications.  You may search the Roadrunner Scholar for articles by your favorite professor, search through the college yearbooks, and read archived issues of campus publications such as Tributaries, eQuill, and The RoadRunner.

Constitution Day

Dr. Matt Hipps, Assistant Professor of Political Science will speak to the campus on Political Discourse at 6pm, September 17, 2012 in Goodroe Auditorium, Gignilliat Memorial Hall Building.

Dalton State Lunch & Learn

Dr. James Adams, Professor of Biology, will present “Butterflies and Moths: Not The Wimps They Appear To Be" at a Dalton State Lunch & Learn on Thursday, September 20, from 12 noon to 1:00 pm. The lunchtime program will be held at the College’s James E. Brown Center at the north end of the campus.
A world-renowned entomologist, Dr. Adams is the Dalton State Foundation's 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award honoree.

“I liked bugs from age two,” Adams says, “but I got serious about it at age nine or 10, when I started to take good care of the specimens. My mom started me collecting – it took big time. I didn’t collect baseball cards; I collected butterflies and moths.”

Adams completed his PhD at the University of Kansas, where he served as curatorial assistant for the university Lepidoptera collection, the first person to focus on it in almost a century. He came to Dalton State in 1990.
