Thread by Thread: Northwest Georgia's Tufted Textile Heritage

On Thursday, April 2, 2015, the Bandy Heritage Center's exhibition "Thread by Thread: Northwest Georgia's Tufted Textile Heritage" will open at the Bandy Center's Old Freight Depot Gallery located at 305 S. Depot Street in Dalton, Georgia. This exhibition traces the growth of Northwest Georgia's tufted textile industry from its beginnings with Catherine Evans Whitener's hand tufted chenille bedspreads through the evolution of the spread mill to the carpet industry's "Golden Years" of the 1950s and 1960s.

The exhibition combines images from the Bandy Center's historic Carpet and Rug Institute photograph collection along with objects that illustrate the products and processes that helped transform a homegrown industry into the economic powerhouse of the Northwest Georgia region.

The exhibition will be open at the Bandy Center's Old Freight Depot Gallery  Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm until June 30, 2015. The exhibition is FREE to all Dalton State College students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
