Oral History Project Sponsored by Center for Public History

Have you ever worked in a cotton mill, hosiery mill, or apparel factory in the Dalton area? Do you have stories to share about your employment or living in a mill village? We want to hear about your or your family’s experiences. The Center for Public History at the University of West Georgia in cooperation with the Bandy Heritage Center at Dalton State College invites you to join us on November 10th from 1 PM to 5 PM for a Textile History Day at the Dalton Area Convention & Visitors Bureau located in the Freight Depot to share your story!

We will be recording your stories and memories by conducting short 15-20 minute oral history interviews and scanning photographs or documents related to the textile industry in Dalton.

All interviews and scanned images will be archived at the Center for Public History at the University of West Georgia for research purposes.

Hosted by the Center for Public History, this History Day is part of a larger Textile Heritage Trail that the Center is developing. It will run from Dalton to Columbus, Georgia along Highway 27, and will tell the story of textile history in the greater West Georgia region. As an institutional member and partner in the Textile Heritage Trail project, the Bandy Heritage Center recognizes and celebrates the significance of Dalton’s carpet industry as the culmination of Georgia’s textile industry.

For more information about this event, please contact Daniel Kellogg at the Center for Public History at 678-839-6141 or by email at wgtht@westga.edu.
