Operation Write Home
In 2007, Sandy Allnock heard a radio story about a Texas woman who had sent 1,000 cards to her deployed son’s unit. Troops are often unable to purchase a card to send home for special events or holidays. Sandy wanted to share some of her home-made cards and soon Operation Write Home was formed.
Today, care packages filled with hundreds of handmade cards are sent to deployed soliders, restocking every 6-8 weeks, and arrive in time for the long
journey back home to loved ones. Each box is packed with great care,
alternating styles, colors, and cardmakers from all over the USA,
creating “eye candy” for heroes who see only khaki around them.
The Roberts Library will host an Operation Write Home event on Monday, September 15 in Room 235. Stop in any time between the hours of 2-4pm and help us create Thanksgiving cards for troops to send messages home to their family and friends. All supplies will be provided!
